Pastoral Assistant - Youth & Children

Ximena Leroux

I am Mexican and a naturalized American; I speak Spanish, English, and some French (which I need more practice, not to forget!) I am the daughter of an IT engineer and a chemistry professor. I hold a doctorate in sociology from Emory University, an MBA from INSEAD in France, and an undergraduate in history from MIT. I grew up in the Catholic faith, became a “None” for some time, and returned to the church in the Reformed faith when my son was young. Now, I am training to become an ordained Presbyterian pastor. In my first year of seminary, I started learning biblical Hebrew, which I will need to practice as I learn Japanese. Biblical Greek can wait until the following academic year!

I am Jeffreys’ wife, Santiago’s mom, and stepmother to Connor. They will stay state-side while I live in Japan, visiting me and Tokyo Union Church. Also, I am the human co-parent to adorable dogs Lola (a 16-year-old, 7-lb Pekinese) and Luna (a 7-year-old, 14-lb Yorkie mix). Another doggy has lived with us since yesterday: a foster we call Cana Grande, a 66-lb Cane Corso, whom we hope will find a new family very soon: she is lovely and affectionate, but she has us on edge with her many pounds of boundless energy. At home, I take care of my potted plants, and when I have time, I knit (ask me about my Wave of Change cardigan, in Madeline Tosh DK Holi Festival) and read fiction (The Expanse is a favorite I have read through twice). I used to cook more, but my husband has taken over, even learning to make Mexican food.

Praying that our time together will be fruitful for our faith in God,

Ximena.
