The Glory of Christ

By Jonathan Oh

In today's passage, we see Peter, James, and John going up with Jesus up a mountain to pray. However, it was a long day, and the three disciples fell asleep. It was then that Christ was transfigured (the Greek word is the base for metamorphosis), literally glowing like a lightbulb from the inside out. It was in this moment that the disciples had an opportunity to see Christ in some form of His divine glory. And yet, good old Peter did what many of us probably would have done: become fixated on what he was seeing rather than seeing Christ for who He truly is. A powerful voice - God the Father - reminded them of who Jesus truly is by a thundering voice from a cloud that came upon them, commanding them to listen to His Son, His Chosen One.

As we go through this journey during this year's Lenten season, let us remember that Christ came not only to accomplish salvation but to accomplish this for His glory. The journey Christ makes to the cross encourages us to carry our cross and follow Him, but it is with great hope and anticipation that we pursue Him - knowing that Christ is the Son of God who loved us and gave us His life so that we might live and be with Him. That should drive us to worship of our King and Savior, and ultimately, we should be able to look forward to when we can greet Christ in His full glory.
